The Register of Historic Battlefields list includes 47 locations of the most important historic military battles on English soil.
Why are they important for planning?
Planning rules do not prevent development on battlefield sites but developers need to provide a statement so that the planning authority can make a judgement about whether any development may harm the heritage of the site.
Responsible organisations and guidance
Historic England manage the Register of Historic Battlefields list with assistance from the Battlefields Trust.
